Piped Piper Kindergarten, located in Blair Athol and Raby, is a family owned and run business, established in 1995.
Owners, Terri and Paul Gee, employ 25 staff and have been offering Year 11 and 12 students, who are studying Hospitality as part of their Higher School Certificate, valuable work placements in their kitchen since 2008.
Students get to prepare food, cook, serve, clear and clean. They are given the opportunity to work independently and make suggestions.
Co-ordinator, Christine Lee, says “We like to give back to students and the community and provide on the job training in a friendly learning environment. It goes both ways; the students enjoy it and we get to assess their suitability as future employees. We like to tell the students if you love your job, you never work! We love to see the students own their experience and walk away feeling good.”
Christine adds “We are currently trialing two girls for child-care traineeships. One of the girls was a Hospitality work placement student who loved working in the kindergarten and is now considering child-care as a career. This is what work placement is all about.”
