Building Partnerships

Parents

As a parent it can be puzzling when it comes to assisting your teenager about their career choices. Parents have a key role to play in helping their child make career choices. To be able to offer the best support and direction, parents should to be aware of the current pathways available for young people.

Parents & families can participate in partnerships that provide an informed and supportive environment for all young people to enable lifelong learning and career pathway planning, as well as improving their education and transition outcomes.

To achieve such an outcome, Partnership Brokers can focus on building partnerships that support parents and families to:

  • Access supportive networks and services to help their children purse chosen directions
  • Make links between learning and career aspirations
  • Enhance their capacity to confidently and effectively engage in education and career decision making
  • Support learning in and outside of the classroom

“Parents, in fact have the greatest potential for assisting their children in Career Planning.”
Jenny Trusty & Richard E Watts.

“Many studies show that young people cite their parents most frequently as the main influence in their pathways. No other group even comes close.”
M Shoffer & Richard H Klemer.
