Parents & Families
MWLP is committed to supporting Macarthur parents and families and encourages parents to regularly visit this website to view up-to-date information and opportunities to engage with child development experts and other parents.
Influence on Career Decisions
Parents and families have an incredible influence on the development of young people, regardless of whether this influence is conscious or not. This includes an influence on career decision making.
“Parents have a disproportionate influence on our careers either through well-meaning but partial careers advice or as role models. It is questionable whether all parents are sufficiently well-informed about current work trends to offer sound advice…” Dr Jim Bright, Bright & Associates http://www.brightandassociates.com.au.
The NSW Department of Education and Training has collated some interesting and useful tips and careers information to support parents and families. Go to https://www.det.nsw.edu.au/vetinschools/schooltowork/parentscommunity.
Understanding Teenagers
Teenagers have four things in their lives they have to do:
- They have to find out who they are – get an identity.
- Get themselves some good friends.
- Have some kind of emancipation from their mums and dads – some kind of separation.
- They have to connect with an educational institution, so they have some kind of vocational direction in life.

Testimonials
“MWLP is one company that parents should know about. They focus on supporting the career development, transition and vocational learning needs of young people.
I wish MWLP was around in my day. I remember many kids who could have benefitted from some real direction in their lives. I am sure nothing much has changed today except that there is an option.”
David Everett, In Macarthur Magazine.
“The ‘Parents as Careers Helpers Project’ is a praiseworthy program that essentially enabled me to provide assistance in guiding local youth towards a catered, reputable job prospect. The project rendered me a sense of satisfaction; as a parent myself, I find it increasingly important that students are provided an opportunity to achieve the skills required to follow their ambitions, and that confidence be installed within them to make dreams a reality. I am excited to see such a project grow and invest my full support for its future projections.”
Linda Meechan, Parent.
