August 2009 – Target Macarthur Square

Outstanding Business of the Month: Target Macarthur Square

It’s people like Lynne Littlewood, Operations Manager at Target, Macarthur Square who make the Macarthur such a great place. Lynne has been involved with MWLP for years and has had a highly positive impact on the youth of Macarthur. Lynne has a message for Macarthur business “Get involved with the Macarthur Workplace Learning Program – it’s a great experience.”

Target, Macarthur Square offers HSC students, studying either Retail or Business Services, wonderful work placement opportunities within their store. The program is supported by top management including Store Manager, Melinda Murphy. Their passion and commitment to our youth is overwhelming. Melinda says “Students are inducted into the Target “way of life”. They are given lots of one on one training with emphasis on communication and team work. The students are also told about the tremendous career opportunities that are possible within Target’s structure – positions such as Operations Mangers, Store Managers, Buyers, Regional and District Managers.”

Lynne Littlewood says “The program is well structured with strong support from MWLP staff. Students are well presented, mature, keen and willing to learn. It’s a great way to assess students before offering them possible work.” What Lynne particularly enjoys is seeing the students arrive all timid and shy on the first day and leaving at the end of the week confident and full of positive self esteem.

Target, Macarthur Square is a retail department store specialising in clothing, apparel, electrical goods and toys. They have been operating in Macarthur Square for the past 10 years and their contribution to the Macarthur community is outstanding.

As this month’s winner, Target Macarthur Square will receive profiling in the Macarthur Chronicle, one month’s free advertising on C91.3FM, exposure on and thanks to Greater Union Campbelltown, Gold Class movie tickets.
