Congratulations to Jamaica Blue Macarthur Square who has won MWLP’s Business of the Month.
Jamaica Blue Macarthur Square promises to consistently deliver memorable and satisfying café experiences, with a genuine smile, to all their loyal customers.
They also provide Year 11 and 12 students, who are studying Hospitality as part of their HSC, with memorable and satisfying work placements.
Why do they do it? Owner/Manager, Dean Kallas, enjoys the extra pair of hands and the opportunity to assess future staff in the week the students are with him.
Dean says “It is definitely the best way to interview. The qualities I look for are punctuality, a good work ethic, how students interact with the customers and staff and a great attitude. I get a sense of their employability skills and the students have the chance to decide if Hospitality is for them.”
He adds “We have been taking students for some 18 months now and over eighty percent of the work placements have been offered casual positions with us.”
One such student is Bianca West a Year 11 Thomas Reddall High School student, who after a successful work placement, is now employed as a casual.
The students clear tables, serve, load and unload the dishwasher, prep in the kitchen and interact with customers.
Dean has a message for businesses not yet a part of the MWLP Linking Youth program. “If you are looking to recruit young staff, need an extra pair of hands (at no cost) or want to add value to your business, I recommend you contact MWLP.”
