February 2014 – LJ Hooker Camden

LJ Hooker Camden has been helping families discover their dream homes since the early 1980s.  Specialising in residential properties the staff of eleven are committed to help you buy or sell your home.

They are also committed to giving back to the community by offering work placements in their office every fortnight.  Year 11 and 12 students studying Business Services, as part of their HSC, are given a valuable insight into the world of work and the workings of a busy Real Estate office.

Franchisor and Director, Miriam Roberts, has put together a timetable that ensures the students spend time with every staff member.  Their duties are varied and include data entry, data research, stuffing envelopes, answering phones, collecting mail, letter box drops and accompanying staff on property inspections etc.

The students really appreciate this opportunity and their excellent feedback is the reason why LJ Hooker Camden has won the highly sought after MWLP Business of the Month Award.

Miriam and her staff enjoy taking the students.  They see it as a win/win situation. She says “Not only are you giving back to your community but you can save up all those little jobs and get an extra pair of hands to assist you.  It helps the students as they don’t get their HSC unless they complete a successful placement and you also get to promote your business.  It is rewarding to see students achieve throughout the week and leave with a greater understanding of business and even some great tips on how to rent a property.  Not only do they learn clerical skills but their confidence soars with a wealth of life skills as well.”

Miriam adds “By taking students via the MWLP program we get to assess students for possible upcoming traineeships or other junior positions.  It is a wonderful way to interview.”

As this month’s outstanding winner, LJ Hooker Camden will receive profiling in the Campbelltown, Camden and Wollondilly editions of the Macarthur Chronicle, one month’s free advertising on C91.3FM, exposure on www.mwlp.com.au and thanks to United Cinemas Narellan, Grand Seating movie tickets.
