Camden Newsagency/Sinclairs Pharmacy is a combined newsagency, bookstore and pharmacy. Established for more than 20 years they pride themselves on their excellent customer service. They are also excited to announce their ‘soon to be’ Priceline store, which will provide Camden with more choice and a greater range at competitive prices.
They currently employ 30 staff and are happy to be able to provide employment opportunities to our youth.
Camden Newsagency/Sinclairs Pharmacy offer valuable week long work placements to Year 11 and 12 students who are studying Retail as part of their Higher School Certificate. They have been offering these placements since 2011.
Sharon Ditton, Office Manager, says “Becoming involved with MWLP has been a great asset to our business. Supporting HSC students is a way of giving back to the community. It also gives us, as employers, an opportunity to gain prospective employees. The students are partly trained in Retail before they come to us, so it gives us a head start and enables us to mould them to suit our Retail requirements. We have employed quite a few since joining the program.”
Students get a variety of experience including two days in the Newsagency learning customer service, point of sale, cash handling, the EFTPOS machine, unpacking stock and stacking newspapers; one day in the book store tidying stock and dusting shelves and two days in the Pharmacy.
Sharon adds “We enjoy providing school students with the opportunity to experience working in Retail and allowing them to decide if that’s the career path they wish to pursue. I believe, if you have a business and are not yet involved with MWLP, you should give it a go. All you are doing is providing a young person the opportunity and you might gain an employee out of it.”
