March 2009 – Lightstorm Computers

Outstanding Business of the Month: Lightstorm Computers

Outstanding! Exceptional! Superior! … that’s how MWLP describes the 250 Macarthur Businesses that provide HSC students with ‘real’ hands-on experience in the workplace.

Why do they do it?

This month’s winner – David Hodge from Lightstorm Computers says “Why wouldn’t we get involved? We’re talking young, highly motivated HSC students that have a willingness to learn and function in a team environment. All students are vetted; teachers liaise with us and MWLP takes care of everything.  It’s a fantastic program and I have some wonderful staff that I would have never have had the chance to meet had it not been for this program. I’ve benefitted greatly and have been able to provide a way forward for many of these kids to further their studies at university. I see no downside at all.”

David goes on to say “We have had some excellent students – in fact three students introduced to us by MWLP have since become valued employees.”

Lightstorm is a specialist one stop IT shop located in Narellan. In addition to a retail shop front they have a fully equipped workshop turning over 60+ systems per week.

They were established in 1997 and now employ nine staff. They service hundreds of businesses across Macarthur.

Lightstorm Computers joined the MWLP program in 2004 and since then have taken on 55 students for week-long work placements.

David Hodge (Owner/Director) has lived and worked in Macarthur all of his life. He has a well established business and many family and friends here. Everything he needs is available locally.  It’s a fantastic community to live and work in, he says.

Congratulations to David and his team.

As this month’s MWLP winner, Lightstorm Computers will receive profiling in the Macarthur Chronicle, one month’s free advertising on C91.3FM, exposure on MWLP’s website and thanks to Greater Union Campbelltown, Gold Class movie tickets.
