Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living is a sustainable education centre.  They showcase urban and rural sustainability, host school excursions, demonstrate how to farm without chemicals and educate on reuse and recycling.  Their message is ‘Fresh is best.  Eat and be healthy.’

For over seven years this outstanding local facility has been hosting one to two students every week.  These Year 11 and 12 students are studying either Business Services, Tourism or Primary Industries as part of their Higher School Certificate.

The Centre is passionate about education.  Helen Byfield-Fleming, Centre Coordinator says “The students are our future and we need to educate them in sustainability.  If they take this knowledge into their own businesses or the businesses they work for, this will improve our future.  It may be just one thing.”

Helen has a message for businesses that are not, as yet, part of the MWLP Linking Youth program “Add youth to your business and give students a go.  Give them a project to enlighten them about your industry and they may become a future employee.  Give them a taste.  They could even teach you a thing or two.”

To find out how your business can become involved in hosting HSC students for week-long work placements, please phone Peter Miller at MWLP on 4625 1863 or email .

You could win promotion on C91.3FM, feature in the Macarthur Advertiser and win dinner for two at The Hermitage Restaurant.

Students also require work placement in other areas such as Automotive, Construction, Electrotechnology, Entertainment, Hospitality, Human Services, Information & Digital Technology, Metal & Engineering and Retail.

This Work Placement is mandatory and students will not pass their HSC without successfully completing their placement.

It’s a great way to showcase your business and it’s free.
