Tahmoor Garden Centre was established in 1981 and for the last 15 years has been owned and operated by Steve and Sylvie Hollingworth. Apart from the plants and great advice from qualified Horticulturists, they also operate a Gift Shop and the Le Jardin Cafe.
Tahmoor Garden Centre has won this month’s prestigious MWLP award for their contribution to Macarthur’s youth. They offer week long placements to Year 11 and 12 students who are studying Primary Industries as part of their Higher School Certificate.
The students are given an induction and usually a hot chocolate in the Cafe. Once they settle in they get to weed, water, plant displays, propagate, price and assist customers.
Steve likes to go out of his way to get to know the students. He says “It’s good to show the students what working in my industry is like. These students are our future and some have been offered casual work after school and on weekends here at the Garden Centre. It is rewarding to see the students develop confidence during their time here”.
Tahmoor Garden Centre also offers Work Placements to Hospitality students in their Cafe. They are wonderful supporters of our community.
Steve has a message for businesses not currently a part of the MWLP Program. “Get involved. You have nothing to lose. Give the young a go. You will be surprised.”
As this month’s outstanding winner, Tahmoor Garden Centre will receive profiling in the Campbelltown, Camden and Wollondilly editions of the Macarthur Chronicle, one month’s free advertising on C91.3FM, exposure on www.mwlp.com.au and thanks to United Cinemas Narellan, Grand Seating movie tickets.
