November 2011 – The Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan

Outstanding Business of the Month:  The Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan

This spectacular garden opened to the public in 1988 as part of the NSW Bicentennial project.  It is the largest Botanic Garden in Australia comprising some 400 hectares.  Set within natural woodlands and grasslands the organisation focuses on the conservation of flora and fauna.

Dan Bishop, Manager Horticulture, is an enthusiastic supporter of the MWLP program offering Year 11 and 12 students, who are studying Primary Industries as part of their HSC, the opportunity to get a taste of real working life.  Dan says “It’s important to give students these types of experiences whilst they are still at school so they can assess what’s ahead of them”.

Dan adds “The students are eager to be involved and it’s a thrill to see some of them actually applying for apprenticeships further down the track.  The MWLP team does all the paperwork, are really helpful and make everything easy going.  Not only do we take Primary Industries students, we also offer work placement opportunities to students studying Entertainment and Tourism”.

As this month’s exceptional winner, The Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan will receive profiling in the Macarthur Chronicle, one month’s free advertising on C91.3FM, exposure on and thanks to our much valued new sponsor, United Cinemas Narellan, Grand Seating movie tickets.

To find out how your business can become involved in hosting HSC students for week-long work placements, please phone Peter Miller at MWLP on 4625 1863 or email

Areas of interest other than Primary Industries, Entertainment and Tourism are Automotive, Business Services, Construction, Hospitality, Information Technology, Metal & Engineering and Retail.

It’s a great way to showcase your business and it’s free.
