Endeavour Park Equestrian Centre was established in Oakdale in 1999. The Centre offers horse riding to all ages, in all disciplines and recently hosted the first Special Olympics Equestrian Day.
Owner/Operator Ineke Thomson, a qualified coach, is passionate about sharing her love of horses and the industry. She has been offering week long work placements to Year 11 and 12 students who are studying Primary Industries as part of their Higher School Certificate since 2007. She has, in fact, offered one placement each and every week since then.
Ineke says “I wish work placement was around when I was younger. It is a unique and rare opportunity for young people who are looking for a career involving horses other than the racing industry. Students help look after and lead the horses, assist clients get on the horses and interact with both adults and children. They learn to be sensitive and empathetic to the clients’ needs and learn how to work in a team environment. I treat them like staff.”
Ineke adds “The MWLP Work Placement Program is a great way for me to assess the students. I have offered two work placement students permanent work here. I enjoy giving them a start in life and the main quality I look for is initiative.”
