East Coast Brackets specialise in brackets for garages and sheds; from carports to aircraft hangars. They have been established in Macarthur for some eight years.
They offer Year 11 and 12 students, who are studying Metal & Engineering as part of their Higher School Certificate, the opportunity to undertake one week’s work placement in their factory.
The students really enjoy the variety of work they are given. Tasks vary from guillotining, turret punching, bending, welding, programming, packing and despatch.
Owner/Manager, Andrew McLoughlin, has been a part of the MWLP Linking Youth program since 2012 and really enjoys showcasing his industry to young people.
Andrew says “I remember the opportunity I was given when I was younger. It’s how I got into the trade. It’s great to be in a position where I can pass on some skills. Some of the work placement kids have come back as paid casuals. They are also appreciative of the time we put into them. They fit into our team well.”
Andrew adds “MWLP takes care of all the paperwork. I get a calendar with the dates and names of the students. I would recommend it to other employers.”
