Congratulations to Coles Harrington Park Plaza who has won MWLP’s Business of the Month.
Coles Harrington Park Plaza is highly respected for its excellent customer service and is well supported by the local community.
They have been offering weekly work placements, to Year 11 and 12 students who are studying Retail as part of their Higher School Certificate, for the past eighteen months.
Store Manager, David Taylor enjoys being a part of the MWLP Linking Youth Program. He says “It is always good to give young people a chance and it is a great way to identify potential employees who will fit in to the store, the team and who will be able to interact with the customers. It is much better to be able to asses them in the week they are with us than having to decide after a short interview.”
David adds “You get to try before you buy and the students get to prove to themselves if they have what it takes to work in our, sometimes challenging, environment. We try to give the students as much experience and variety as possible. They work in our Grocery Department, pack in Bakery, process back stock cages and work on store presentation. Students also spend time in Fresh Produce and learn about the different products, quality and processes and about markdowns.”
Coles is ranked fourth in LinkedIn’s Top 25 most sought after companies to work for in Australia and is also the top Retailer. Coles Supermarkets offers a wide selection of careers ranging from entry level management in Service, Bakery, Produce, Deli, Meat etc. to careers in Buying, Merchandising, Marketing, Safety and Human Resources. According to David the sky is the limit at Coles where employees can be trained for Regional and State Managerial positions.
David encourages more students to undertake work placement at Coles Supermarkets. “It is a great company to work for.”
