NECA Training & Apprenticeships is a non-profit organisation, established in 1916. It has 5,000 members who employ 100,000 people. NECA currently employs approximately 720 apprentices.
They are the industry association for electrical contractors and are passionate about training and young people.
NECA Training & Apprenticeships offers work placement to students in Years 11 and 12, who are studying Business Services as part of their Higher School Certificate. For over 10 years they have generously offered two students every month the opportunity to become an Office Junior for a week.
Administration Manager, Beverley Hewer, tailors the work to suit the student. Tasks vary from filing, photocopying, data entry, setting up spreadsheets and preparing for upcoming events such as careers days.
General Manager, Tom Emeleus thinks it is a great way to showcase the industry. He says “It is an opportunity for the students to get some hands-on experience and see if it is something they might like to pursue. We get an extra pair of hands and during the week they are with us, assess them for upcoming traineeships. It is a great way to interview.”
Tom has a message for businesses that are not yet a part of the MWLP Linking Youth program “Give it a go! It is a great opportunity to raise awareness of your business. It supports the community by training up young people and you get an extra pair of hands.”
