Epic Industries, located in Picton, has been established for over forty years. It is a third generation, family owned business. Grandson, Mark Azzopardi took over the business a year ago, having been with the company for nine years. It is a machine manufacturing business with a total of 14 employees.
They have been offering week-long work placements to Year 11 and 12 students, who are studying Metal & Engineering as part of their HSC, since 2011.
One student each month gets the opportunity to put the knowledge they are learning in the classroom to good use in the factory.
Students are partnered with tradesmen and perform basic machine and fabrication work, material handling and cleaning.
Owner/Manager Mark Azzopardi says “We like to give back to the community and it is a good way to interview and assess the students in the week they are with us. We have hired quite a few students in the past, both as casuals and permanent employees.”

Mark has a message for businesses that aren’t, as yet, with the MWLP Work Placement Program. “We highly recommend hosting students. It is good community and company practice. We should be encouraging young people to get into the trade. We are losing valuable, older workers and no-one is replacing them. It is also a good way to showcase your industry.”
Business of the Month winners are promoted on our website, Facebook and LinkedIn. Their article is published in our monthly e-newsletter which is distributed to hundreds of our stakeholders.
Winners also receive a gift voucher valued at $100.
To find out how your business can become involved in hosting HSC students for week-long work placements, please phone Peter Miller at MWLP on + 61 4625 1863 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Students require work placement in other areas such as Automotive, Business Services, Construction, Electro-technology, Entertainment, Hospitality, Human Services, Information & Digital Technology, Primary Industries, Retail and Tourism.
It’s a great way to showcase your business and it’s free.
